Scope and Purpose

FabricYardageCalculator.com publishes fabric quantity estimates for upholstery, sewing, curtains, quilting, cushions, and general rectangular projects. We also publish guides and charts that explain how project choices affect those estimates. The content is for planning and education. It is not a replacement for a commercial pattern, measured tear-down, workroom cut plan, or project-specific professional advice.

Keeping the Explanation Honest

A calculator's result should agree with the method described on the page and in the methodology page without hiding shortcuts or presenting an estimate as a finished cut plan.

When the written explanation and the code disagree, we treat that as a correction issue. The appropriate fix may be to change the code, the copy, or both, depending on which behavior is useful and intended.

How Calculation Changes Are Checked

When a calculation changes, we use these practical checks:

1. Repeat a known example before and after the change and explain why the result moves.
2. Check rounding, unit conversion, optional materials, and the limits placed on inputs.
3. Run the automated checks for that calculator and add the reported case when it can be reproduced.
4. Read the result labels, worked examples, and methodology again so the wording still matches the tool.

The automated suite covers representative defaults, option changes, rounding, boundary handling, and finite outputs for the supported project types. It checks software behavior, not professional endorsement or universal real-world accuracy.

Guide and Reference Standards

• Content should be written for a person trying to plan a real project, not padded to reach a word count.
• Examples should include enough inputs for a reader to reproduce the result.
• Rules taken from the site's own engines should agree with the current code.
• External facts should be attributed when a source would help a reader verify them.
• Copied, lightly rewritten, or mass-produced filler does not meet this policy.
• Estimates, defaults, shortcuts, and known limits should be identified in plain language.

Review Timing

We do not claim a fixed quarterly or monthly review schedule. A calculator and its related copy should be reviewed when its logic changes, a test exposes a regression, a source used by a guide changes, or a reader provides a reproducible concern. Displayed review dates should change only when the relevant page has actually been checked.

Corrections Policy

A correction request is most useful when it includes the page address, all calculator inputs, the result shown, the expected result, and a short explanation. We first try to reproduce the result. We then identify whether the issue comes from arithmetic, rounding, input handling, displayed copy, or a model assumption.

A calculation correction should update the affected tool, a repeatable check when practical, and any explanation that has changed. A wording or broken-link correction can be made after it is verified. We do not call an issue fixed until the corrected page or calculator is live.

Evidence and Expertise

We describe an outside review only when the reviewer, scope, and date can be identified. We do not use unsupported traffic totals, anonymous endorsements, unnamed authorities, or vague appeals to authority as evidence of accuracy. Trust should come from reproducible examples, visible assumptions, testable code behavior, useful limits, and clear corrections.

Commercial Independence

Payment, affiliate relationships, or product access must not determine a calculator formula or alter a result in favor of a brand. Affiliate or sponsored links, if used, should be disclosed where a reader encounters them. A paid placement must not be presented as an independent recommendation.
